How to beat Darth Vader and steal his lightsaber in Fortnite

While there have been some major Star Wars-related Fortnite events in the past, fans of the battle royale continue to anticipate any chance to interact with the galaxy far, far away. This is especially true when the offer includes a duel with Darth Vader and the potential to take his lightsaber.

Yes, Fortnite‘s 21.10 update lets you battle Darth Vader alongside any other Fortnite players who are brave enough to challenge the iconic villain. While we’ve seen battles against NPC bosses in previous Fortnite events, the fight against Vader is especially noteworthy. Not only is it surprisingly tough to take Vader down, but it’s arguably just as difficult to figure out how you’re supposed to fight him in the first place.

The first thing you should know is that Darth Vader will not appear in competitive Fortnite modes. It appears that the Fortnite team didn't want competitive players to obtain a lightsaber and the considerable advantages that weapon provides. In addition to that, it seems that Darth Vader spawns at random on the Fortnite map.

When you're riding the Battle Bus (or jumping out of it), you can spot Vader's ship flying around the map. The good news is that tracking Darth Vader isn't entirely a matter of luck. It's easy to find Vader if you can track that ship until it lands, or you can look for a blue beam on the map that indicates where it will ultimately land if you follow it until it lands.

Even though you can land directly on the ship, you should keep a distance between yourself and it. You're going to want to find a pretty good weapon before trying to take on Vader because he's a tough NPC, and he's even accompanied by Stormtroopers who will shoot at you on sight.

Despite his massive health pool, Darth Vader is a shockingly tough Fortnite boss. He is surrounded by those aforementioned Stormtroopers who are much better shots than you might have expected. One of the best ways to make the fight against Vader easier is to kill those Stormtroopers and loot their blasters. Since those blasters have unlimited ammunition, you can fire continuously at Vader.

Regardless of which weapon you are using, you'll want to stay away from Vader as much as possible. Keeping a little distance between you and him will at least allow you to avoid his devastating lightsaber swings, even if you can't do much to avoid his lightsaber throw, lunge, and Force attacks.

The fact that he can block your projectiles will force you to find ways to deal with them even when you are at a distance.  As a result, it becomes increasingly necessary to fight Vader alongside other players.

While the other players are also trying to take Vader's lightsaber before you, it's hard to do so on your own. If Vader turns his attention to you, you'd better hope that someone manages to steal it from him before he gets too close to you. You'd better go after him while he's busy with another player.

You'll finally be able to defeat Vader with enough patience and some help, after which you can loot his lightsaber from his body. Be aware that only one person can loot the lightsaber at the same time, so you may need to fight off any other survivors to get it. You'll need to decide who will grab it if you're part of a squad.

Aside from unleashing powerful melee attacks, that lightsaber can also block enemy fire if it comes into contact with it. As with any long-range Fortnite weapon, you can also throw this version of the lightsaber by aiming and shooting it.

Fortnite's new battle pass requires players to reach Tier 100 to unlock the prized Darth Vader skin. You can unlock that skin 'for free' by earning XP and working your way through the battle pass, but it will take you a long time to get there by playing normally. V-Bucks can be helpful in that regard, of course.

Thank You!
