Human Torch is Chris Evans' preferred role over Captain America

Human Torch actor Chris Evans said his version of the character has a better chance of attracting a return to the Marvel Universe than Captain America.

Chris Evans stated in a recent interview for his new film Lightyear that he would rather play Johnny Storm rather than Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As Evans pointed out, if Marvel Studios were to try to reintroduce him into their newest phase, the Human Torch would be more attractive than Steve Rogers' Captain America. He said that he doesn't want to interfere with Cap's emotional goodbye in Avengers: Endgame and that he's sentimental about him as a character.

MTV News asked Evans if he could return as the Human Torch in a multiverse. 'I'd love it. I'd love it. Bringing back Cap would be more appealing to me. Do you know what I mean? I love Cap so much. Evans said that he almost didn't want to disrupt that beautiful experience. I love that role, but he didn't get his day because that was before Marvel found its stride.

During the early Marvel years, Evans appeared as human torch Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four film of 2005. In 2007, he reprised the role but did not appear in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer due to poor box office performance.

When Evans returned to the 'new and improved' MCU, he played Captain America/Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), which arguably became his greatest achievement. In 2019, he left the MCU after receiving his fairytale ending with Peggy Carter.

The actor shared his excitement for Hayley Atwell's multiversal return as a variant of Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, even though he has not been approached by Marvel Studios for a return.

As a professional actor, he said, 'she is one of the best I have ever worked with.' She was also one of the greatest humans he has ever known. She portrayed Peggy Carter, one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Steve Rogers' love interest, on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Atwell previously portrayed Peggy Carter on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel Studios is exploring the possibility of another Captain Carter film, despite the film's unfortunate ending for her Captain Carter variant.

The new multiverse could provide Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige a chance to invite Evans back to the franchise once more. With all the upcoming and future MCU films, fans may indeed see Evans return one day. In theaters now is Lightyear, and on Disney Plus you can watch Captain America films.
