The writers of Deadpool 3 reveal how they plan to approach their film's MCU setting

In a recent interview, Deadpool 3 screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick disclosed how their film will approach its setting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Recently, there emerged a Twitter interview with Reese and Wernick in which the pair answered questions about how a more edgy character like Wade Wilson will work in the more conservative MCU.

Reese described the situation as a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water comedy. 'Deadpool is a lunatic at the center of a movie... To put a lunatic in a very sane world is like putting butter on butter. I'm looking forward to seeing it.'

It's been speculated by Reese and Wernick that these filmmakers are eager to create a parody of the MCU in Deadpool 3 now that they have access to the shared universe's extensive roster of iconic heroes and villains.

The screenwriting duo also revealed that Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019 wasn't something that factored into their creative process early on.

'We were never expecting that partnership between Fox and Disney, that was an external thing independent of our storytelling process. But we're looking for the serendipity in that, or at least we hope to,' said Reese.

Meanwhile, Deadpool 3 producers Ryan Reese and Scott Wernick reassured fans that despite the film's move to Disney, the franchise will keep its raunchy tone. The studio supports the decision to keep Deadpool adult-oriented, according to Wernick and Reese, saying that the Merc with a Mouth will remain a force on the big screen.

As far as Disney was concerned, it had not requested any changes in its scripts. 'At least when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, we may hear at some point, 'Maybe this shouldn't be said.' But they've been tremendously supportive of what we're doing,' Reese said.

In their recent discussion, the pair also discussed Deadpool 3's lengthy production schedule. According to Reese and Wernick, the four-year gap between Deadpool 2 and its sequel was a result of their desire to deliver a truly great sequel.

A further hint was the fact that Deadpool has been incorporated into the MCU canon, which is making it more difficult to write the script. Reese and Wernick confirmed that they continue to work hard on Deadpool 3 despite these difficulties and have progressed on the screenplay.

It's very entertaining for us collaborating with Ryan Reynolds all the time and working on it all the time,' Reese said. Deadpool 3 doesn't yet have an official release date.
