Tell Me Why (opens in new tab), a narrative adventure from Dontnod Entertainment (developers of Life is Strange (opens in new tab), is available for free on Steam and the Microsoft Store during June in honour of Pride Month.
The story follows Tyler Anson, a trans guy who returns to his Alaskan homeland to reunite with his sister Alyson .
The two explore their mother's strange death. Oh, and they can interact with each other telepathically, since a Dontnod game wouldn't be complete without some supernatural antics.
This isn't the first time Tell Me Why has been made available for free. Not only was the first episode made permanently free (opens in new tab) a while ago, but Microsoft also gave away.
The entire series for free (opens in new tab) during last year's Pride Month, though the publisher didn't identify it as the reason.
This year, Microsoft is being much more forthright about the cause, posting a message on the official Xbox website in support of the trans community to go along with the offer.
"For the whole month of June 2022, Tell Me Why (opens in new tab), the award-winning narrative adventure from Dontnod Entertainment and Xbox Publishing, will be available for free on Xbox consoles,
The Microsoft Store, and Steam. In recognition of the alarming spike in anti-trans sentiment in the United States this year, Xbox Publishing is donating $25,000 to each of
The Transgender Law Center and Trans Lifeline, two non-profit organisations that provide services and assistance to trans, non-binary, and genderqueer persons."
"The game's gentle coming of age story is equally undone by the hard yank back into its darker overarching story, with its disturbing and occasionally absurd twists," Sam Greer wrote in her review, noting.
That "the game's gentle coming of age story is equally undone by the hard yank back into its darker overarching story, with its disturbing and occasionally absurd twists." Still, at zero pounds, Tell Me Why's more human side is surely worth a shot.
